As an aspiring young artist, I was fascinated by classic science fiction and horror movies from the 1930’s to 1970’s like “Frankenstein”, “The Wolf Man”, and “The Fly”. These movies had a big impact on me and motivated me to make art that is strange, sometimes scary, and makes the viewer question what they see.  As some movies made me uncomfortable, I want to do the same with my art. But in my artwork, I tell stories and share messages that have multiple layers of meaning. My artwork in this show reflects my admiration for pop culture, and addresses cultural stereotypes about Native Americans as influenced by vintage sci-fi/horror films and posters. Ultimately, my artwork is an expression of my personal identity and experience as a Native American.

I’ve always worked with my hands and been artistic, ever since I was a toddler. Whether that’s nature, nurture, or because art was the only way I received praise, I still haven’t figured out. Jewelry has been a way for me to have some control over my life and where it went. Nature is a recurring theme for me, as my fondest childhood memories are from my grandmother working in her garden and taking me to national parks.
